Water Rescue Service on the incident:
(…) at around 1:00 p.m., WSR rescuers from the sonar group specializing in underwater searches went to Lwówek Śląski to search for a man who had gone missing (...).
After arriving at the scene, they began operations on the water using a towed sonar and scanned the area. In cooperation with the Specialized Water and Diving Rescue Group from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Jelenia Góra and officers from the Police Search and Rescue Group in Lwówek Śląski, after several hours and analyzing the sonograms, they managed to locate an object, and a diver retrieved it from the bottom. The coordinated cooperation of the services resulted in a fast and efficient response and, unfortunately, a sad but final resolution to the man’s disappearance.

During the night of July 15–16, 2023, officers from the County Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski received a report that a 33-year-old man had gone missing. He had been spending time with friends at the water reservoir in Rakowice Małe. According to the findings, the group decided to go swimming while they were socializing. When they came ashore, they realized that one of them was missing. They began searching on their own and notified the Lwówek police about the incident.The officers, together with service dogs, immediately began searching both the water and the shore surrounding the excavation site. Officers from the County State Fire Service in Lwówek Śląski and Volunteer Fire Service units from the Lwówek Śląski Municipality also joined the search for the missing man. The Specialized Water and Diving Rescue Group from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Jelenia Góra and the Specialized Water and Diving Rescue Group from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Legnica were deployed. They searched the body of water using divers and equipment such as sonar, which is designed to examine the bottom of the reservoir.
At the same time, police officers serving in the Police Search and Rescue Group and other officers on duty, together with firefighters, as well as the man’s family and friends, checked the shoreline area meter by meter. In the following hours, the Specialized Rescue Unit from Wrocław joined the search, bringing a search dog, an all-terrain vehicle and a drone. Those involved checked several more hectares of terrain.
Rescuers from the Water Rescue Service in Wrocław also joined the operation. After arriving at the scene, they began operations on the water using a towed sonar and scanned the area. As a result, the man’s body was located and retrieved by a diver.
A forensic investigation team and a prosecutor arrived at the scene. The man’s identity was confirmed.
The Lwówek officers thank all the services and other participants for actively joining the search operation for the 33-year-old man who went missing on Saturday night.

Let us recall. On Sunday morning, the Lwówek County Police Headquarters reported a search operation for a 33-year-old man who was last seen the previous evening at the gravel pit in Rakowice Małe.
