Biathlon combines physical endurance with shooting precision. It also requires the ability to control one’s breathing, because after a sprint race, competitors must fire five accurate shots at the range. Biathlon is associated with winter sports. It originated with Norwegian border guards. The first patrol race, which gave rise to biathlon, took place between Norwegian border guards in 1767. The biathlon race made its first appearance at the 1st Winter Olympic Games in Chamonix, held under the name Winter Sports Week, in 1924.
Summer biathlon consists of a cross-country run without a weapon over a specified distance. During the race, competitors visit the shooting range two or four times, taking either a standing or prone position and firing five shots each time. Competitions are held for women and men in different age categories.
The winners of the Polish Summer Biathlon Cup can be found on the website of the Polish Biathlon Association.
