– On Sunday, scammers contacted a 78-year-old woman from Lubin by phone, telling her a story about a fatal road accident allegedly caused by members of our senior citizen’s family – reports Senior Aspirant Krzysztof Pawlik, deputy press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin.
And he adds: – The fake police officer offered her bail in exchange for the family’s release from custody, and the victim fell for it. In total, she handed over PLN 80,000 to a “courier” allegedly acting as an intermediary in transferring the money to the Police.
Only after a few moments did the woman realize that she had been deceived and reported to the police headquarters. The spokesperson said: – The police now face painstaking operational work to identify the perpetrators of this crime.
Officers are appealing to residents to talk to seniors about the dangers associated with fraud:
Do not believe stories told to us over the phone and always – after pressing the red button on the phone to end the call – verify what we have been told.
Do not want to be deceived? Be distrustful!
