The incident occurred on Monday, June 12. Firefighters from Nowogrodziec:
After 5 p.m. (…), during cleanup work, a person came to our station and informed us that smoke was rising from the site of the most recent forest fire—on the border between Nowogrodziec and Nawojów.
The firefighters explain: – There was a fire in that area almost two weeks ago.
They add: – The matter was reported by telephone to the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec, after which we went to the site.
They further explain:
The report was confirmed, and the hidden sources of fire were extinguished with water.
The sources of fire in question were located in three places, over an area of approximately 50 square metres. The firefighters from Nowogrodziec: – The fact that these small, smouldering fragments of forest litter, almost invisible to the human eye during the day (only slight smoke was visible), were dangerous may be demonstrated by the temperature they generated. The photo shows a view from a thermal-imaging camera, which indicated values above 300°C.
The operation lasted about two hours. No one was injured.
