– Over the past weekend, 18 road accidents occurred on Lower Silesia’s roads. Twenty-two people were injured, while sadly four died at the scene as a result of their injuries – reports asp. Przemysław Ratajczyk of the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.

He adds: – The most serious incident occurred in Oleśnica County, where, for reasons not yet established, a 41-year-old driver of a Volkswagen crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with a Mercedes truck. Unfortunately, as a result of their injuries, the Volkswagen driver and his 39-year-old passenger died at the scene.

They also add:

Oleśnica police officers, under the supervision of a prosecutor, are carrying out activities aimed at clarifying all the circumstances of this tragic incident and establishing its exact course.

The officers:

In view of the accidents that occurred on Lower Silesia’s roads over the past weekend, officers once again appeal to all road users to observe safety rules and strictly comply with the applicable regulations. Let us remember that drivers must exercise particular caution when joining traffic, changing lanes or changing direction, and look in their rear-view mirrors every time. A motorcyclist, moped rider or even cyclist may approach at any moment.

We also remind you that overtaking is permitted only in designated places. Before beginning this manoeuvre, we should make sure that it will not endanger road safety. Do not cut corners or cross into the opposite lane. A moment’s inattention can result in a serious accident.

It is also important to adjust your speed to the conditions on the road and the applicable limits. Maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead is equally important.

They also emphasize:

Let us also pay attention to road signs.

And they conclude:

We also appeal to two-wheeled vehicle users not to exceed the speed limit or overtake in prohibited places. They are classified as vulnerable road users, and any incident involving them can end tragically.

Motorcycle riders should also obtain clothing designed for riding this type of vehicle, including reflective braces or a vest, and wear a protective helmet at all times.

We also remind all drivers that overtaking before or at a pedestrian crossing, as well as passing a vehicle travelling in the same direction that has stopped to give pedestrians right of way, are extremely serious offences that often contribute to fatal accidents. Therefore, let us remember always to exercise particular caution when approaching a pedestrian crossing. When we see a pedestrian, let us slow down so that, should they enter the roadway, we can safely stop our vehicle. Let us always bear in mind the safety of ourselves, our loved ones and other road users.
