The Stop Energy Drinks competition is an initiative of councillor Michał Warchoł and Małgorzata Madej, headmistress of the Primary School in Szczytnica.
- I would like to sincerely thank all the students who became involved in this important initiative, as well as their parents for supporting their children in developing their talents, said the councillor. – I would also like to thank the Primary School in Szczytnica and the School and Preschool Complex in Iwiny for raising students’ awareness of the negative effects of consuming energy drinks and motivating them to undertake additional tasks promoting a healthy lifestyle, added Michał Warchoł.
The awarded and honourable-mention entries were laminated and will be displayed in selected shops in Warta Bolesławiecka Municipality.
- Alongside the school’s art competition, we organised workshops for children entitled “Energy under control”, says Małgorzata Madej. – We received financial support for this purpose from the Commission for the Resolution of Alcohol-Related Problems in Warta. The value of these classes lay in the children’s independent work. The students looked for the ingredients of energy drinks themselves and examined how these ingredients affect the body, the headmistress explains.
The works created by the students were very rich in content, educational and completed with extraordinary care. Therefore, the jury had a difficult decision to make about whom to reward and whom to honour. The standard of the entries was high, which best demonstrates the students’ commitment to the competition and their acceptance of this form of learning about healthy nutrition.
Warm congratulations go to all the competition participants, winners and originators. Great thanks also go to the generous sponsors, especially Studio Borowski for providing beautiful statuettes for the winners. The doughnuts—sweet surprises straight from the bakeries in Raciborowice and Warta Bolesławiecka—delighted all the children. After their energy doughnut, the children spent time on the playground, actively enjoying the sunny day: Children’s Day!

WARNING!
Energy drinks are intended exclusively for adults and should not be consumed by children and adolescents, because they contain ingredients which, when taken in large quantities, especially by people with a low body weight (such as children), may lead to exceeding doses at which toxic effects are observed.
It has also been proven that beverages with a high caffeine content consumed by children and adolescents may lead to disorders in the development of the nervous system.
According to scientists, energy drinks pose a threat not only to health but also to life. A single can may lead to a heart attack, affecting both older and very young people.
Even people in full health should not consume such drinks too often. Healthy people should reach for them only in emergency situations, for example before an important examination or during a tiresome journey. Such beverages should not be consumed, among others, by children, adolescents, pregnant women, people suffering from heart or nervous-system conditions, migraines or hyperthyroidism.
