It was Saturday morning when officers from the Wałbrzych traffic police received a report of a road collision in the car park on Witosa Street in Wałbrzych. When they arrived, they found a boy who showed them his primary-school ID.

It turned out that the teenager was barely 13 years old and had got into a car made available to him by his 83-year-old neighbour. The underage resident of Wałbrzych first reversed out of the parking space, shifted into first gear and then set off forwards with full force, crashing into two other parked cars.

At the scene, the older woman was fined PLN 300 for allowing a person without a driving licence to drive the car. Traffic police officers also prepared documentation concerning the incident, which will be forwarded to the family court in connection with the 13-year-old creating a risk to traffic safety.

In connection with this incident, we would like to remind you: if you know that a person does not have a driving licence—including a child(!)—but wants to drive a vehicle, prevent them from doing so. You should also notify an employee of the Emergency Notification Centre by calling 112. They will pass the information to the duty officer at the nearest police unit, who will send a patrol to the scene. It is important that society does not tolerate such behaviour, which, as in the case described above, can end not only in a collision but also in a road accident.

We also remind you that everyone who gets behind the wheel of their vehicle is responsible not only for their own safety, but also for the lives and health of other road users. Let us remember to drive in accordance with the regulations and observe the restrictions set out in law.
