The incident occurred on 8 May in Podgórki, in Złotoryja County. – The motorcyclist failed to adjust his speed to the road conditions while negotiating a bend, as a result of which he crossed into the opposite lane and then collided head-on with a correctly travelling truck – reports junior warrant officer Paweł Noga from the Press Section of the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters.
He adds:
As a result of his injuries, the motorcyclist was taken by ambulance to hospital after receiving initial medical treatment. A breathalyser test conducted by officers at the scene showed that the truck driver was sober, while the motorcyclist was under the influence of alcohol. Detailed blood tests will establish the exact levels and whether he was also under the influence of psychotropic substances.
Moreover, the 45-year-old two-wheeler rider had had his driving entitlement revoked, while the motorcycle he was riding was not road-legal and did not have the required third-party liability insurance. The irresponsible driver could now face up to two years in prison.
Police:
In view of this incident, officers appeal to all drivers to exercise caution on the road. Sunny weather means that more motorcyclists appear on the roads every day. Naturally, the foundation of safety—as always—is observing the law and complying with it.
It adds:
Following, among other things, speed limits, keeping an appropriate distance between vehicles, staying sober, and carrying out overtaking or passing manoeuvres correctly are factors that make motorcycle riding safe for motorcyclists themselves and for other road users.
