The accident occurred after 8:00 p.m. on Thursday on the A4 motorway. At the 65th kilometre in the direction of Zgorzelec, just beyond the exit to Jadwisiń, the van driver struck the trailer of a truck. He died at the scene.
Medical rescuers were the first to arrive and provide assistance. Unfortunately, there was nothing they could do: the front of the van had been completely crushed, as can be seen in the photographs. The rescuers pronounced the driver dead.
Firefighters used hydraulic tools to gain access to the passenger seat and check whether anyone else had been travelling in the van. There was no one else in the vehicle besides the driver.
Two fire crews from JRG Złotoryja, one OSP crew from Zagrodno, two crews from Chojnów and two PSP crews from Bolesławiec were at the scene.
