The April session of the Bolesławiec County Council is underway. One of the items on today’s agenda was a report by Kamil Barczyk, director of the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej in Bolesławiec, on the financial and organizational situation of the institution and on providing healthcare to residents of Bolesławiec County in 2022 and for 2023. After the presentation Kamil Barczyk, councillors asked the head of the county facility questions. Among them was County Council chairman Wojciech Kasprzyk, who said, among other things:
Many people use our hospital. They praise the hospital and the way you manage the institution.
But he immediately added that critical voices were also emerging. The issue concerned worrying reports about the Emergency Department. – Not the equipment, but the staff – W. Kasprzyk clarified. He noted: – We of course know that the Emergency Department is not a shop and that you have to wait your turn. Nevertheless, many people report that the staff behave rudely.
And he asked director K. Barczyk to verify the report.
Councillor Jacek Łuczkowski of Wolny Bolesławiec spoke in a similar vein:Jacek Łuczkowski:
For a patient who arrives at a hospital, the most important thing is to be attended to reasonably quickly and properly; to be cured. In reality, whether the hospital is PLN 15 million in the black or in the red is generally of little interest to the patient. They want to leave the hospital healthy.
The opposition councillor suggested that the hospital authorities conduct a survey of patients’ satisfaction and recovery rates. He said this would be the “best measure” of the quality of treatment at the hospital.
He also added: – Rumours have emerged. I do not like repeating rumours, but I would like the director to deny them. Is it true that any inspection is currently being conducted at the hospital, perhaps even by the Central Anticorruption Bureau?
Director K. Barczyk replied: – No inspection is currently being conducted on the hospital premises.
