On 13 April, the Jelenia Góra Branch Office of the Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection was notified by an employee of the Wrzeszczyn Hydroelectric Power Plant about black-and-grey foam floating on the Bóbr River.

Inspectors confirmed the report:

It was found that, in the immediate vicinity of the weir at the Wrzeszczyn Hydroelectric Power Plant, a light beige substance was floating on the surface of the Bóbr River. Clusters of light- and dark-grey foam and small patches of a blue substance were also visible.

Employees of the Central Research Laboratory of the Chief Inspectorate for Environmental Protection collected water samples for laboratory testing. WIOŚ adds:

To determine the source of the pollution, inspectors inspected the right bank of the Bóbr River along a stretch of approximately 900 m upstream from the power plant’s weir. Small clusters of light-grey foam, individual clusters of dark-grey scum and small blue patches were found along the entire inspected stretch.

It also adds: – During the inspection of the Bóbr River, no offensive odours were detected. No dead fish were found either.

The person responsible for polluting the river has still not been identified.
