As reported by the Central Cybercrime Bureau:

The message begins with an MMS stating that the recipient has an erotic photo service activated. From the message’s content, we can read that the recipient will receive erotic photos on their phone. The remainder of the information contains instructions on how to cancel the service. To do so, send a message containing “KONIEC” to the number indicated in the message. Sending such a message will reduce our account balance by more than PLN 11.

The Bureau explains:

The message created by the criminals is actually intended to extract money from frightened recipients who, acting in panic and haste, want to cancel as quickly as possible a service that they have in fact never activated.

It also adds:

Let us remember that every form of correspondence, every message sent to the provided number, will reduce our account balance by the amount of money specified in the message.

What can you do to avoid falling victim to these criminals?

  • If you received information about signing up for any premium service and you know nothing about it, it is best to contact your mobile network operator and ask a consultant about the matter.
  • For safety, you can ask to have all SMS and WAP Billing services blocked. These are services for which a fee is charged either for receiving an SMS or for visiting a specific website.
  • Additionally, read the terms and conditions for providing this service. They should contain provisions explaining how to cancel it.
