At the turn of March and April this year, the duty officer at the Lwówek police station received two reports of damage to and theft of railway infrastructure elements on the active route between Gryfów Śląski and Rębiszów. – As a result of the damage, people travelling by train along the route experienced difficulties reaching their destination – reports Asp. Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.

And she adds:

Criminal investigators from the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski took up the case and immediately undertook a series of actions aimed at identifying and arresting the perpetrators. Less than a few days after the last report, officers arrested the suspects: a 35-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, residents of Bolesławiec County.

She further explains:

During the proceedings, officers established that this was not the only crime the criminal duo was suspected of committing. The evidence collected indicates that the detainees may also be linked to the damage to and theft of railway overhead lines in Bolesławiec County.

The losses caused by our local residents while carrying out their scheme were estimated at more than PLN 116,000. Together, they were charged with five offences. At the investigators’ request, the court remanded the 35-year-old man in temporary custody for three months.

Both thieves from our county now face a sentence of between six months and as many as eight years in prison.
