Ambassadors of the “Bezpieczny Przejazd” social campaign are calling on drivers to behave properly at railway-road crossings. They remind people of the rules for using the PLK Yellow Sticker. They warn against weaving around lowered barriers, ignoring the stop sign and activated signals.
Yellow sticker: where to find it, what it contains and how to use it?
Yellow stickers are located on the barrier mechanisms or on the St Andrew’s crosses on the track side. They contain three important numbers: the crossing’s individual identification number (the intersection number), which precisely indicates the crossing’s location; the emergency number 112, which should be called when life or health is at risk; and the number for PLK technical services, which can be used to report irregularities and failures at crossings that do not pose a direct threat to life.
At the crossing in Bolesławiec (on Polna Street), the PLK yellow sticker is located on the barrier mechanism, on the track side.
Example situation:
- a car becomes immobilised at the crossing,
- the driver calls the emergency number 112, reports the danger and provides the crossing’s individual identification number, shown on the Yellow Sticker,
- The 112 operator calls the PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. control centre,
- The control centre orders rail traffic to be halted or train speeds to be reduced,
- Rail traffic is halted or a speed restriction is introduced in the area of the relevant crossing, thanks to the information provided on the Yellow Sticker.
Drivers should remember that:
- the STOP sign means that you must stop before the crossing,
- a red light absolutely prohibits entering the crossing – flashing signals mean that a train will be at the crossing shortly,
- you may enter the crossing only when you are sure you can leave it,
- as you approach the crossing, exercise particular caution and make sure that no train is approaching.
The number 112 should be used when life is at risk or an accident may occur – for example, when a car has become immobilised between the barriers, in the event of an incident at the crossing or when an obstruction on the tracks is spotted. Contacting the 112 emergency number and the railway workers’ response can prevent tragedy.

The crossing in Bolesławiec (Polna Street) is monitored. In addition, there is a safety post before the crossing, which can also be used to report hazards. When the crossing staff notice a worrying situation on the monitor, they can also issue a voice warning via the post.
