– The National Map of Security Threats application has for many years served as a link between the local community and the Police. Thanks to it, many problems that genuinely affect residents’ sense of security have been eliminated. This time, an illegal tree felling operation was reported via the Map – says junior asp. Tomasz Nowak from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
And he adds:
The anonymous report concerned a location in the Warta Bolesławiecka municipality. As in every such case, officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn – after receiving the report via the interactive communication tool – took action to verify it.
The officers not only confirmed that illegal tree felling had indeed taken place, but also established the identity of the person suspected of the act. The 40-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County was detained and admitted to the crime. The spokesperson said: – Using borrowed tools, the perpetrator cut down 28 trees from municipal land and then cut them into pieces. The officers located the place where the loot was stored and secured the stolen property. The total losses caused by the man were estimated at 3,500 zlotys.
The 40-year-old now faces up to five years in prison.
