Last weekend, while off duty, a police officer from the Traffic Division of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław detained an intoxicated driver in Bolesławiec County. Aspirant Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters:
While driving along the A4 motorway, the Wrocław police officer noticed a lorry whose driver was making various unnecessary manoeuvres without signalling them in advance; the vehicle was not staying in its lane and was moving onto the emergency lane. When the lorry driver pulled into a parking area, the officer followed him to check what had caused such behaviour on the road.
She adds:
A man was inside the vehicle’s cab, and the smell of alcohol could be detected from him; contact with the driver was difficult. The police officer immediately took action to prevent the drunk driver from continuing to drive. She took the keys and called a police patrol to the scene.
The 49-year-old resident of Małopolska was detained by the Bolesławiec traffic police. As it turned out, he was completely drunk; he had 2 per mille of alcohol in his system. He now faces up to two years in prison.
Officers: – Our colleague’s conduct is an example that one is always a police officer, not only while on duty. This is another situation that only reinforces the belief that Lower Silesian police officers always uphold the law, regardless of the time of day or night.
