The incident took place on national road No. 30 in Lubań. Local traffic police stopped the driver of a Volvo for inspection; he was driving at 104 km/h in an area where the speed limit was 50 km/h.

– After checking the 33-year-old man in police systems, it turned out that in 2022 he had committed a similar speeding offence – reports Asp. Sgt. Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Lubań.

She adds:

Under the new regulations, in force since 17 September 2022, the driver committed an offence under the so-called repeat-offender rules. Drivers must bear in mind that committing the same type of offence again within two years will result in a fine twice as high. In this case, the Volvo driver was already issued a fine of PLN 3,000 and 13 penalty points for exceeding the speed limit by 50 km/h. His driving licence was also confiscated.

She also adds:

The driver accepted the fine, but let us remember that a police officer may also refer the case to court, which may impose a fine of up to PLN 30,000.
