The incident occurred on the night from Friday to Saturday in the psychiatric ward of the Szpital dla Nerwowo i Psychicznie Chorych in Bolesławiec. Two patients got into a fight. One of them suffered a head injury. He was taken to the county hospital for surgery, during which he died.
“We know that one patient attacked the other, but we do not know whether they fought each other or whether it happened differently. We have no direct witnesses. We know about injuries to the face. We have no confirmation that a knife was used; no such weapon was found anywhere,” prosecutor Ewa Łomnicka of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec says.
An autopsy of the man is scheduled for Monday. Investigators must determine whether the death during surgery resulted from the fight and head injury, or whether it was caused by some illness.
