Officers from the Third Unit of the Traffic Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica, while on duty in the Municipality of Miłkowice, noticed the driver of an Audi who was known to the officers for previously committed traffic offenses. Knowing that the driver did not have a license to drive motor vehicles, the officers signaled for him to stop for a roadside inspection. The 35-year-old resident of the Municipality of Miłkowice had no intention of stopping; he accelerated sharply and began to flee.

The officers began pursuing the driver, who continued to flee despite the flashing lights and siren, violating traffic regulations. At one point, the 35-year-old lost control of the vehicle and drove into a river. The man left the vehicle and began fleeing on foot, then jumped into a pond and attempted to escape; however, after a short pursuit, he was detained by the officers.

A check of the Police information systems confirmed that the man did not have a license to drive motor vehicles. Moreover, a drug test showed that he was under the influence of narcotic substances. In addition, the vehicle he was driving did not have a valid technical inspection. After being examined at a hospital, the detainee was placed in police custody.
The 35-year-old will now face court proceedings for what he did. Failure to stop for a roadside inspection is punishable by up to 5 years’ imprisonment and a driving ban.
