– Officers from the Traffic Department of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters arrested a 34-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra immediately after the incident. He is suspected of stealing a VW Transporter and failing to stop for a traffic check – reports aspirant Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.

The incident occurred on February 13, at around 12:00 p.m., in the car park of one of the discount grocery stores in Mysłakowice. The spokesperson said:

The van driver was travelling with a group of cyclists. When one of them began to feel unwell, the man briefly got out of the vehicle in the car park to check what was happening to the cyclist. The 34-year-old took advantage of the moment, got into the vehicle and drove away.

The stolen vehicle was estimated to be worth more than PLN 40,000.

The duty officer notified police patrols about the crime. A few minutes after the report, officers spotted the wanted vehicle on national road No. 3 in Radomierz and signalled to the driver to stop. Aspirant A. Pieprzycka said: – However, he did not react and continued driving.

A few minutes later, the fugitive hit a vehicle travelling in front of him. The 34-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra was arrested. Not only did the man lack a driving licence, but he also behaved as though he was under the influence of drugs.

The 34-year-old was taken into police custody. He faces up to five years in prison. If it turns out that he was indeed driving under the influence of drugs, he will also be held liable for that offence.
