On Wednesday, February 1, Piotr Borys, a Member of the Sejm from the Civic Coalition, held a press conference in Bolesławiec devoted to the parliamentary elections scheduled for autumn and work on the Electoral Code. The MP is concerned about the fairness and equality of the upcoming elections:
These elections certainly will not be equal, because Law and Justice is using the entire government and media apparatus to ensure that they are not equal. Public media alone, which promote only one party, the PiS party, receive more than 2.5 billion zlotys annually.
The MP also drew attention to dangerous changes that could be introduced before the elections:
The Electoral Code includes, among other things, an amendment to Article 106, which states that, in addition to committees, citizens may conduct election campaigning. What does this mean? It means that the so-called “millionaires” from PiS will be able, for example, to rent thousands of billboards using their own “hard-earned” money from State Treasury companies and allocate it to support one “right” political party that gave them jobs.
Piotr Borys calls for civic protection of the elections:
Throughout Poland, we will need approximately 100,000 people so that they can be present at every stage of the commissions’ work and prevent the elections from being rigged. To prevent ballots from being added during the final minutes of the commissions’ work.
Today, we wanted to call on everyone who cares about the impartiality and fairness of the elections. (...) We encourage you to cooperate with the Civic Coalition. Together with other opposition parties, we will create the Election Protection Movement. A civic movement. We want to give everyone the opportunity to get involved in these elections and in monitoring them.
The MP encourages people to contact Civic Platform structures in municipalities, cities and counties, where they will receive all the information on how to participate in monitoring the elections, as well as information on how to become a member of an election commission or a trusted observer.
