On January 12, after 2 a.m., Bolesławiec police officers received information about a driver travelling on the A4 who might be under the influence of alcohol. A police patrol found the driver at a motorway service area. A truck driver who was also travelling on the motorway confirmed that the man sleeping behind the wheel of the van had been driving the vehicle several minutes earlier and, through his behaviour, had forced other drivers to make sudden manoeuvres to avoid a collision.
A sobriety test confirmed the suspicions. The 41-year-old resident of Kielce was driving the van with more than 3‰ of alcohol in his system. Inside the vehicle, officers found bottles that had contained vodka and beer.
The officers immediately confiscated the 41-year-old's driving licence. Driving while intoxicated carries a sentence of up to 2 years in prison, loss of the driving licence and financial consequences.
