As reported by the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways:

We have signed a contract to prepare design documentation for the renovation of the viaduct over the A4 motorway between Wrocław and Żórawina. The documentation will be prepared within the next three months, after which a contractor will be selected to repair the viaduct. The damage occurred when an excavator being transported on a lorry struck its structure.

The road administrator adds:

Damaged sections of the viaduct’s steel structure will be cut out and replaced with new elements. The concrete deck slab will be reprofiled and repaired. The renovation is intended to restore the structure’s nominal load-bearing capacity and enable unrestricted traffic on it later this year.

Why is this renovation necessary?

Road engineers: – On 22 July 2022, an excavator transported by a heavy goods vehicle damaged the viaduct over the A4 motorway along county road no. 1954D between Wrocław and Żórawina. After inspecting the structure, we decided to close it to vehicular traffic. At the same time, we commissioned an expert assessment, which allowed traffic to be restored for vehicles weighing up to 30 tonnes, with alternating one-way traffic. Detours remain in force for vehicles weighing more than 30 tonnes.

  • along county road 1954D (including Grota-Roweckiego and Borowska streets) to the intersection with national road no. 94 (Borowska–Armii Krajowej),
  • along national road no. 94 (Armii Krajowej Avenue) to the intersection with voivodeship road no. 395 (Bardzka Street),
  • along voivodeship road no. 395 through Żerniki Wrocławskie and Turów to the intersection with county road no. 1972D in Wojkowice,
  • along county road 1972D to Żórawina.

For the Żórawina–Wrocław direction

  • along county road no. 1954D (Wrocławska Street) to the intersection with county road 1972D in Żórawina,
  • along county road no. 1972D (Niepodległości Avenue, Słoneczna Street) to the intersection with voivodeship road no. 395 in Wojkowice,
  • along voivodeship road no. 395 through Turów and Żerniki Wrocławskie to Wrocław.
