The police received a report that the family had been unable to contact two residents of Żeliszów for several days. The officers asked firefighters from the Bolesławiec Municipal State Fire Service Headquarters for assistance.

On January 4, it was decided to enter the building. Signs of a fire could be seen in front of the window. Two bodies were found inside—a 36-year-old woman and a 51-year-old man—and one of the victims had suffered burns. Since both had already developed rigor mortis, attempts to provide assistance were abandoned.

A prosecutor was at the scene yesterday; today, activities involving an expert will be carried out there.

The fire must have occurred some time ago and extinguished itself. It was certainly intense—one room burned down, while another was blackened by smoke.

In a conversation with the istotne.pl portal, brigadier Piotr Pilarczyk, deputy commander of the Bolesławiec fire service, said that this was the first time he had encountered a fire with such a fatal outcome that had extinguished itself and had gone unnoticed by everyone—apart, of course, from the victims.

The police and prosecutor’s office are investigating the causes and circumstances of the incident. At present, there is no indication that the people had been drinking alcohol. Both probably died as a result of smoke inhalation.
