On January 2, the Klekusiowo centre received a notification from the municipality about a cat hanging on a fence in Łaziska. Animal welfare volunteers rushed to the animal’s aid...

Read the story shared on the centre’s profile:

Today we received a request from Gmina Bolesławiec. A cat that had supposedly hanged itself on a fence was reported. When we arrived at the site, it turned out that the cat had not hanged itself but had been impaled on a sharp part of the fence. The only safe way to free the cat was to dismantle the part.

In such cases, the wound must not be interfered with. Removing such an object from the body may cause significant blood loss and result in death.

Unfortunately, our doctor fell ill, so we asked Dr Marta from Przychodnia Weterynaryjna Marvet for help. The cat underwent surgery, and the metal rod was safely removed. It is now lying in an incubator and recovering.

What is the conclusion?

The injuries are not fresh; the cat must have been hanging there for some time... a day... two... It was dying in agony... Was it frightened by firecrackers? Possible... Was it a victim of the New Year’s Eve celebrations? Very likely...

One thing is certain. Around the New Year period, there are significantly more such accidents, significantly more injured animals—both domestic and wild. There are also significantly more dead animals.

What can we be happy about? Cooperation with the municipality and the veterinary clinic.

And we are very grateful for the trust (...)
