– Police officers from Lubań were notified of a break-in at a building located on an uninhabited property in the Olszyna municipality. They immediately went to the scene and made initial findings, reports asp. szt. Łukasz Dutkowiak, press spokesperson for the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
It turned out that one of the perpetrators climbed onto the building’s roof using a ladder, then smashed a window and got inside the house. A moment later, he opened the front door for the other man, and together they began ransacking the rooms inside. Asp. szt. Ł. Dutkowiak said: “The perpetrators stole everything that had any value, including electrical equipment, paper, cables, scissors, a toaster, books and even coffee.
The property owner estimated the value of the stolen goods at approximately 4,000 zlotys. What is more, the victim told police officers that in one of the rooms he had found a bag containing a recorder ready to be taken away. The spokesperson said:
After it was switched on, the footage from the surveillance cameras was played back, showing two men. They were pulling a cart with a ladder behind them. Having a good understanding of the criminal environment, the police quickly identified men who might be connected with the offence.
He added:
Just a few minutes later, a 43-year-old man hiding in a bathroom was arrested in one of the flats in Olszyna. Because the people inside the premises refused to open the door, the police decided to force their way into the flat. The second man, a 57-year-old with no permanent address, was arrested shortly afterwards.
Nearly all of the stolen property was recovered by criminal investigators from Lubań. The burglars face between one and as many as ten years in prison.
