Officers from the Lower Silesian National Revenue Administration (KAS) and the Border Guard (SG) secured more than 15,000 packs of cigarettes and 107 kg of tobacco without excise stamps.
The illegal goods were stored in a rented garage. The value of the seized tobacco products was estimated at nearly PLN 307,000.
Aria’s keen nose
Officers of the Customs and Tax Service and the Border Guard inspected private property in Sieniawka (Zgorzelec County). During the inspection, Aria, a service dog belonging to the Lower Silesian KAS, detected tobacco products in one of the metal garages. Hidden inside were 15,207 packs of cigarettes and 107 kg of tobacco without excise stamps.
Garage for rent
The owner of the property where the garage was located admitted that she had been renting it to two men since October of that year. She did not use it and did not know what was inside. At the same time, officers questioned a suspect who admitted hiding illegal tobacco products in the rented garage.
Value of the seized goods
If the seized illegal tobacco products had entered the market, the state budget would have lost more than PLN 377,000 in excise tax.
