The incident occurred on November 26. – After 4 p.m., police received a report of a thief locked inside a dovecote in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki. At the scene, officers learned that in the afternoon the dovecote’s owner had gone to close the house of his “charges” for the night. It turned out that, in addition to pigeons, the dovecote contained an unknown man with a white sack – reports asp. Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – It was a little too early for Saint Nicholas, so the owner did what first came to mind – he locked the would-be thief inside and called the Police.
The would-be in spe robber turned out to be a 40-year-old resident of Ząbkowice County who, before being locked in the dovecote, had already managed to hide two pedigree birds in the sack.
As the dovecote is located about 5 metres above the ground and can only be reached by a narrow wooden ladder, the police – in order to bring the suspect safely down to the ground – called the firefighters.
The unlucky would-be thief was detained. As it turned out, he was completely drunk; he had more than 2 parts per thousand of alcohol in his system. The spokesperson said: – He explained his conduct by saying that he himself keeps pigeons and wanted to “mix their blood” to expand his flock. The resident of Ząbkowice County will now face court proceedings for attempted theft, which in this case constitutes a criminal offence. The pigeons returned to the dovecote safe and sound.
The 40-year-old could face up to five years behind bars.
