The pierogi-eating competition was Bistro Wilcze Smaki’s own idea. Thirteen contestants of various ages took part. Some were persuaded by their wives, while others wanted to test themselves in a new challenge. They had to eat as many pierogi as possible in 40 minutes.

Before the competition began, everyone was in good spirits and had healthy appetites. The pierogi were served with sour cream and drinks. The contestants started with 10 pierogi on a plate, and additional plates of 10 were brought to them.

The first slump came after about 15 minutes, after the contestants had eaten between 20 and 30 pierogi. They slowed down and showed less enthusiasm when the next portions arrived. However, around the twentieth minute of the competition, their energy returned, and the favorites had eaten 40 pierogi. Some contestants began asking what the consolation prize would be if they could not manage to finish. Yet with nine minutes remaining, nobody had withdrawn.

Mr. Jakub, originally from Bolesławiec and now living in the village of Czaple, emerged as the winner. He ate 46 and a half pierogi in 40 minutes. Only three contestants ate more than 40 pierogi.

“After breakfast and coffee, I managed to win,” admitted Mr. Jakub from Czaple, to loud applause.

It was great fun, and the pierogi were delicious. During the championships, the contestants were visited by the woman who made the pierogi. Mrs. Wiktoria made 1,200 pierogi yesterday. We invite you to Bistro Wilcze Smaki for pierogi and more.
