President of Bolesławiec Piotr Roman and Marcin Janaszek, vice-president of the management board of Janaszek Electric Sp. z o.o., signed an agreement concerning the modernization of street lighting in the city of Bolesławiec, as part of the project “Modernization of street lighting in the western and southern parts of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.” The value of the agreement is PLN 12,365,080.32.
The project involves modernizing 3,148 lighting fixtures by replacing them with modern LED road-lighting fixtures, replacing and installing poles qualified for replacement in the inventory list, and painting outreach arms. The lighting cabinets qualified for replacement in the audit will also be modernized if they have metal enclosures or have not been removed from transformer substations.
The project also involves installing the Smart Lights Intelligent Lighting Management System, which enables wireless and autonomous control of LED lighting fixtures, with control at the level of individual LED fixtures. It is a system supporting advanced lighting scenarios for individual fixtures as well as groups of fixtures. Two-way communication between an LED fixture and the control system will be based on a data transmission network operating in a licensed band. The system will be expandable, allowing not only LED lighting fixtures to be connected and operated, but also additional Smart City functions, such as air-parameter sensors, dusk and presence sensors, and measuring sensors.
The installation of energy-efficient lighting is intended to significantly reduce energy consumption and, consequently, CO2 emissions, which will improve air quality in Bolesławiec. The installation of new lamps is expected to improve the city’s appearance, but—above all—the modernization of all outdated and energy-intensive road-lighting fixtures and their replacement with energy-efficient ones will reduce the costs associated with lighting the city. Annual savings were estimated at PLN 3,900,000 based on 2022 prices (energy-cost consumption: 60%), while the reduction in CO2 emissions (the reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions, with the estimated annual decrease in greenhouse-gas emissions) compared with the pre-reconstruction state was estimated at approximately 60%.
The project “Modernization of street lighting in the western and southern parts of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship” received funding under RPO WD 2014–2020, Priority Axis 3: Low-Emission Economy. The value of the project is PLN 13.4 million, including PLN 3,369,253.08 in own funds and PLN 10,075,632.31 in funding under RPO WD.
The project is being implemented in partnership by the following local government units: the Municipality of Bolesławiec, the Municipality and City of Lwówek Śląski, the Municipality of Zgorzelec, the Municipality of Duszniki–Zdrój, the Municipality of Lubań, the Municipality and City of Bogatynia, and the Municipality of Zawidów.
