What this year will bring for coal remains to be seen. Resourceful residents of Bolesławiec County are not resting on their laurels, however, and are stocking up on firewood at Nadleśnictwo Bolesławiec. Interest in this fuel, as forest district manager Arkadiusz Sudoł admits, is enormous. Some people are buying firewood for storage.
This comes as no surprise—not only in the context of problems with coal. The price is also a factor. For 1 cubic metre of so-called branch wood, meaning wood with a diameter of up to 7 cm, you pay just… PLN 5 net. (This is a by-product created during the production of utility wood; it is unsuitable for processing and can only be burned.) There is one condition, however: you have to prepare the branch wood yourself. But beware! Only after making arrangements with a forester, who will show the customer a specific location.
