The Lower Silesian Sports Centre (DSC) was opened in the company of leading officials from sports associations, including Adam Małysz (Polish Ski Association), Joanna Badacz (Polish Biathlon Association) and Łukasz Wachowski (Polish Football Association).

#NaPolanie is one of the most modern facilities of its kind in Europe. It consists of a spacious stadium, a biathlon shooting range and a main building containing, among other things, all the facilities needed to organise competitions. The facility’s first official test was the Polish Roller-Ski Biathlon Cup, held from 13 to 15 September.

“This was, in fact, our facility’s first test under competition conditions. The Polish Cup is an official event on the Polish Biathlon Association calendar. Nearly 140 athletes, officials and technical team members took part,” emphasises Mariusz Gawlik, director of the Dolnośląskie Centrum Sportu Polana Jakuszycka.

The Cycling Piast Race #NaPolanie

It is difficult to imagine Polana Jakuszycka without the Piast Race. Its summer cycling edition took place during the first month of the DCS’s operation. The event, organised for years by the Piast Race Association, attracted nearly one thousand participants to the starting line this year, accompanied by numerous spectators.

“The new facility will certainly also help organise subsequent editions of the winter Piast Race. It will improve the comfort of participants and spectators, as well as everyone who visits this place every day,” says Maciej Klóska, president of the Lower Silesian Park of Innovation and Science, which manages the #NaPolanie facility.

Runmageddon League Final at Polana Jakuszycka

The biggest test for the new facility so far was the Runmageddon League Final at Polana Jakuszycka. It is one of the country’s largest sporting events for amateurs. At the end of October, more than two thousand competitors lined up for the demanding course, accompanied by numerous spectators.

The DCS is also an important step toward bringing the most significant international sporting events back to Poland and Lower Silesia, as its spaces can easily be adapted to host and run them. National sports associations approach international federations about organising such events. At the beginning of 2024, Polana Jakuszycka will host the European Junior Biathlon Championships.
