We reported on swans on the Bóbr River last year. At that time, we could admire two pairs of mute swans on the Bóbr. This time, one pair has appeared. They can be seen along the section of the river between the kayak marina and the viaduct. It must be admitted that they look beautiful against the backdrop of the viaduct. Hopefully, they will stay with us as long as possible.

On this occasion, we would also like to remind you that neither swans nor other birds should be fed bread.

As Wikipedia reports, the diet of swans consists of:

Plant food, supplemented with mussels, snails and insect larvae. During the first days of life, young birds feed on decaying vegetation gathered by their mother. Food is often obtained directly from the bottom of a body of water by submerging the entire front part of the body and raising the rear part above the water. They pull up to 10 kg of submerged aquatic plants from the water each day. An improper diet, for example one rich in bread, can cause angel wing, an incurable condition in adult birds.

Swans living in the wild should not be fed, except during periods of severe winter. Feeding them bread, however, harms their digestive system. If someone insists on giving swans something to eat, it is best to offer them cereal grains, cereal flakes or bran. Finely chopped vegetables may also be given, including cooked vegetables, but they must not be salted.
