A moment after the digression about how the city could use a heated shelter for cats, a question was raised about a heated shelter for homeless people, especially those who have no intention of giving up alcohol. Mayor Piotr Roman then mentioned that the Bolesławiec shelter was struggling with financial difficulties.
He noted that three groups of people stay at the shelter: those who will never leave it; those who show promise and sometimes manage to get back on their feet; and the so-called layabouts. The latter are the most demanding.
The mayor added that the municipal authorities were observing a significant influx of homeless people “from outside”. There are homeless people in Bolesławiec, for example, from Nowy Sącz and Zamość. The mayor heard from one of them that “life is better here”.
Interestingly, P. Roman continued, most of them find accommodation. The biggest problem, however, is with those who do not intend to live soberly. And the Catholic Church could help here. (The mayor mentioned that the parish priest of the Parish of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ in Bolesławiec was interested in opening such a heated shelter.) For now, however, the mayor concluded, the City does not have the funds for it.
