During the September session of the Bolesławiec City Council, Mayor Piotr Roman addressed the issue of drastic energy price increases:

I cannot imagine switching off the lights at night, because this will lead to an increase in crime.

He added:

We are facing a blackout when it comes to issues related to maintaining energy supplies. Today, we pay approximately PLN 2 million for energy, and we are assuming a fivefold increase in prices.

How will the City look for savings?

First, the mayor mentioned that the municipal government can influence illuminations, especially the one on the viaduct. If necessary, it will be switched off. In any case, however, it will operate for a shorter time.

One of the points in the municipal plan is the modernization of lighting, which is expected to bring the municipal government several million złoty in savings next year.

Piotr Roman also spoke about investments that have already been completed, including at PWIK, where a huge amount of energy is being saved thanks to smart water. (Top of the top – as the mayor put it).

Will they close schools to save money?

– It cannot be as one of the ministers said, that 15 degrees is a healthy temperature – P. Roman said. He immediately added: – While sleeping, not necessarily during lessons. We need to find a compromise.

He also emphasized that he cannot imagine children returning to remote learning because of energy prices.

The way out of the crisis is supposed to be renewable energy sources (OZE) at educational institutions. BOK – MCC is also planning to install photovoltaic panels on the roof. Most likely, there will be no Christmas decorations this year either, and if there are, they certainly will not be spectacular.

The mayor noted that, because of this situation, Bolesławiec is threatened with a collapse in the ceramics market. He added: – I am counting on the common sense of those in power. And I say this without any irony.
