The tragedy occurred on September 27. National Headquarters of the State Fire Service:
(...) during the night, in Balice (Kraków County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship), a tragic incident occurred in which members of the Balice Volunteer Fire Service, while assisting people injured in a road accident, were struck by an oncoming vehicle.
As a result of the incident, one firefighter died and two others were injured.
(...) once again, a rescuer, fulfilling his mission—bringing help to another person—paid the ultimate price.
Chief Commander of the State Fire Service, Brigadier General Andrzej Bartkowiak, on behalf of the entire firefighting community, extends his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased firefighter and to the injured volunteer firefighters.
Among others, firefighters from Bolesławiec and volunteer firefighters from our county paid tribute to the deceased firefighter, who left four children orphaned.
At 6:00 p.m., firefighters across the country paid tribute to the Balice Volunteer Fire Service firefighter, who passed away today to eternal service.
Light and sound signals were activated at State and Volunteer Fire Service units.
