– While patrolling one of the roads in Trzebnice, in the Chocianów municipality, Polkowice officers noticed a driver who, while driving her Chevrolet, exceeded the speed limit in a built-up area by 35 km/h – reports junior aspirant Przemysław Rybikowski, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Polkowice. – Before the officers could stop the 61-year-old for inspection, however, she committed another, even more serious offence. The Chocianów resident failed to notice the police car in her mirrors and began overtaking another vehicle at a pedestrian crossing.

He adds:

Ultimately, a short while later, the officers successfully brought the driver’s excessive speed down to zero. In conversation with the officers, the woman said in her defence that she was in a hurry to get to work. The fines imposed by the officers, totalling PLN 2,300, along with the 24 penalty points, will presumably cool the Chocianów resident’s enthusiasm for further dangerous driving.

He also explains:

As of 17 September this year, a mechanism came into force making the removal of penalty points for traffic violations dependent on the date on which the fine is paid. Penalty points will be cancelled only after two years, rather than after one year as previously, and not from the date the offence was committed but from the date the fine was paid. It is also no longer possible to attend courses organised by Regional Road Traffic Centres to reduce penalty points. Thus, in the case of the 61-year-old, any offence committed over the next two years resulting in a fine with even a single penalty point will lead to her driving licence being confiscated.
