Soldiers from the Bolesławiec Bomb Disposal Patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment reported on operations in Nowogrodziec:

Disposal of unexploded ordnance discovered during construction work to renovate the police station fence.

The explosive object found: an unexploded German 88 mm artillery shell, type 8.8 cm Sprgr L/4.5, dating from World War II.

They added:

Explosive ordnance disposal operations carried out:

  • recovery of the unexploded ordnance (using a hook-and-line set and an EOD blast-protection suit);
  • loading the unexploded ordnance into a fragment-proof container on a bomb disposal vehicle;
  • transporting the unexploded ordnance from the town to a safe location;
  • destroying the unexploded ordnance using a countercharge of explosive material.

And they concluded: – We thank all the Services for their cooperation and the residents for promptly evacuating the danger zone.
