A four-day promotional Ceramic Fair will be held in front of the “Bolesławiec” Ceramic Works at 11 Kościuszki Street. The Museum of Ceramics will invite visitors to the exhibition “Twenty Years of Local Democracy,” while the Municipal Library will host a meeting with writer Kalina Jerzykowska.

Main events

Thursday, the first day of the festival, will be devoted entirely to commemorating the 20th Anniversary of Local Government in Poland. The Museum of Ceramics has prepared an exhibition connected with the celebrations. The Forum cinema will host a ceremonial session of the City Council and a concert by Leszek Wojtowicz, a Kraków bard from Piwnica pod Baranami.

Friday is devoted to amateur dance groups from Bolesławiec. Children’s and youth groups will present their skills to local audiences. Performers will include children from the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble, the Canon and Canonki groups, and Break Dance APS-BUNT. The eagerly awaited attraction of the day will certainly be the “Przemiana and Friends” football match against councillors of the city of Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County.

Saturday will be a great Slavic feast. The 10th South Slavic Culture Festival means singing, dancing and cooking together.

Sunday will be devoted mainly to children. To mark the upcoming International Children’s Day, there will be a plein-air acrobatics and juggling show and the theatrical performance “Soap Bubbles.”

Festival flavors and treats

During the South Slavic Culture Festival, cooking teams will prepare pepper soup. They need support groups to help cook and eat the prepared delicacies. There will be no shortage of pita, paprikash, mamaliga and roast suckling pig.

We recommend the art workshops, during which a clay plan of the city will be created and townhouses from the Market Square will be painted on a several-metre-long canvas. The classes are thoughtfully designed. They allow participants to view their own city through the prism of art. We encourage everyone to take part in the workshops “Boleslawiec in a Ceramic Mosaic” and “Bolesławiec Townhouses.”

We invite you to the “Długa” Gallery at the Forum cinema for the exhibition “Sacrum in the Sphere of Passion” by Bulgarian artist Ventzislav Piriankov, who creates in Poland. In his works, the artist combines the Byzantine mysticism of the icon with ecstatic acts of love.

Organizer on City Days

“City Days should have their own character,” says Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, director of BOK-MCC and the main organizer. “It is not a mini Ceramic Festival, but residents’ days. That is why we are emphasizing presentations by Bolesławiec amateur groups. The children practise diligently all year under the guidance of our instructors. City Days are intended to give them the opportunity to present themselves to residents and, above all, to their parents.”

“A special event during this year’s City Days is the commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of local government in Poland,” Lijewska-Małachowska adds. “The aim of the gala organized on Thursday will be to show how the city has benefited from self-government. Archival local television footage showing the beginnings of self-government in Bolesławiec will be presented. I am pleased that we managed to invite the band Kult with Kazik. Many cities competed for this artist this year. I invite everyone to City Days. For me, the greatest reward for the work done will be the largest possible attendance by residents at all the events.”

Traffic restrictions

Organizing an outdoor event entails changes to traffic arrangements in the city centre. Part of A. Asnyka Street will be closed (from the intersection with Karola Miarki and Żwirki i Wigury streets to Sierpnia ’80 Street). This will be in effect from 6:00 a.m. on Thursday until midnight on Sunday.

Piłsudski Square will be closed from Wednesday, 26 May, to Monday, 31 May.

The organizers apologize for the inconvenience and ask residents for their understanding. They invite visitors arriving from elsewhere to use the public car parks on the outskirts of the city.
