The detention took place on 4 August. – While stopped at the Customs Branch in Wrocław, the truck driver heard noises coming from the trailer. He informed the facility’s security staff about the incident – reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS. Officers of the Customs and Tax Service and the Police were also notified.
Together with the driver, the officers opened the trailer doors, where two Afghan nationals were hiding in a small space between the cargo. Their destination? Western European countries. The spokesperson: – The men were taken to a police station, while the truck driver was detained to provide explanations.
The truck was transporting plastic membranes to Poland, which are used, among other things, to seal underground tunnels and construct expressways. According to the shipping documents, the cargo was loaded on 27 July in Turkey. The Afghans could therefore have spent as many as 8 days in the trailer.
Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek: – This is another case of illegal migration. In May 2021, officers of the Customs and Tax Service and the Border Guard detained four men from Afghanistan who were travelling in a truck carrying air conditioners from Turkey to Poland.
