Police officers from the Traffic Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica were carrying out official duties in Prochowice related to monitoring compliance with speed limits. – The officers used a handheld speed meter to check the speed of passing vehicles. At one point, they noticed a fast-moving BMW and measured the speed of the approaching car – reports junior aspirant Krzysztof Marcjan from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. – It turned out that the irresponsible driver was travelling 46 km/h faster than the speed limit in that location, which was 50 km/h.
He explains: – A speed of 96 km/h was far too high, especially considering that the officers conducted the measurement in a built-up area.
When the driver saw the uniformed officer signalling for him to stop, he began to flee. The police gave chase and stopped the fugitive in the popular Bavarian car.
It turned out that a 16-year-old was behind the wheel. The young man told the officers that he had taken the car keys without his parents’ knowledge and that he simply “wanted to take a drive.” When the police wanted to check him, he became stressed and began to flee.
The teenager with a flair for adventure was handed over to his mother. The family court will handle the case. If the perpetrator had been a little older, he could have faced up to five years in prison.
