The weather is taking its toll on residents of Bolesławiec County (and not only them). On July 25, the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued a hydrological warning concerning the Bóbr catchment—from the Pilchowice Reservoir to the Bobrzyca—and the Bóbr River—from the Pilchowice Reservoir to the Kwisa estuary (Lower Silesian and Lubusz Voivodeships):

Course: Due to the low water flows currently occurring, in the coming days the Bóbr catchment from the Pilchowice Reservoir to the Bobrzyca, as well as the Bóbr from the Pilchowice Reservoir to the Kwisa estuary, are expected to continue experiencing water flows below SNQ (mean low flow—editor’s note: istotne.pl).

The warning is valid until further notice.

WARNING! Heat is particularly dangerous for young children and elderly people, people with diabetes or hypertension, and those with heart problems. People taking medication should also exercise particular caution.

How to get through a heatwave?

  • avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day (10:00–17:00)
  • avoid excessive sun exposure and sunbathing
  • use sunscreen
  • do not leave children, animals or flammable materials in a car
  • wear loose, breathable clothing covering as much of the skin as possible; wear a hat and sunglasses
  • drink plenty of fluids regularly
  • avoid drinks containing alcohol and sugar
  • eat light meals, paying particular attention to the freshness of the ingredients
  • avoid physical exertion

  • avoid large temperature differences between air-conditioned rooms and cars and the temperature outside
  • close and cover windows during the day
  • stay in the coolest room in the house, especially at night
  • take care of animals. Do not expose them to excessive sunlight, provide them with unlimited access to drinking water, and ventilate the rooms where they stay
