If you have never seen a palm up close, you have the opportunity to see one in the park by the District Court in Bolesławiec. It is a palm from the windmill palm family.

Trees from this family are frost-resistant, so they can grow in countries with a temperate climate. However, they require certain protective conditions to be provided. Before winter, the Bolesławiec tree will probably once again be removed from the park so that it can return there in spring.

As we read in Wikipedia:

(...) Due to their frost resistance, windmill palms are popular ornamental plants in European countries with a mild climate. This genus has been acclimatized in Western Europe and even in some regions of the Scandinavian countries: Denmark, Norway and Sweden. In Poland, these palms can be grown outdoors provided that adequate winter protection is supplied, with particular emphasis on additional heating.
