The incident occurred in Wojcieszów (Złotoryja County). – Officers from the Złotoryja County Police Headquarters received a report that one of the residents was abusing his dog. The police went to the indicated address – reports Staff Sergeant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the local County Police Headquarters. – At the scene, they established that the reporting parties had heard squeals and whimpering coming from the neighboring property. Concerned by the situation, they decided to check whether the animal needed help.
They then saw their neighbor choking and beating his dog while holding an axe in his other hand. The spokesperson said: – Blood was visible on the animal’s muzzle and nose, as well as next to its kennel.
Although the 43-year-old owner of the four-legged animal was aggressive and resisted, the intervening neighbors managed to separate the abuser from the victim. They also managed to take the axe from the former’s hand.
The attacker was detained and taken to police custody. It turned out that he was also completely drunk; he had nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.
When the 43-year-old sobered up, he was charged with animal abuse, for which he faces up to three years in prison.
Staff Sergeant D. Kwakszys added: – The dog was taken to a shelter, where it is safe and receiving proper care.
