The incident occurred on Wednesday, June 1. Two young men, aged 28 and 21, acting jointly and in agreement, as well as together with other individuals—or an individual—who have not yet been detained, broke into a delivery van by smashing a window. They then drove away in it.

They subsequently abandoned the vehicle in Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, where the stolen vehicle caught fire. The fire was extinguished. Fortunately, no one was injured.

The case is extremely serious because the value of the stolen property amounts to approximately one million złotys:

  • the van—over PLN 213,000,
  • items inside the vehicle—over PLN 4,500,
  • cargo worth EUR 192,000.

The van contained substances used to manufacture medicines. It is not yet known whether the young suspects knew what they were stealing, why they abandoned the vehicle, or whether they set it on fire. At this stage, the prosecutor’s office is not providing details. Both detainees, who had previously come into conflict with the law, were charged with breaking and entering to commit theft. One is a resident of Zgorzelecki County, while the other lives in Żagań.

Last weekend, at the prosecutor’s request, both suspects were placed in temporary detention by the court for three months. The accomplices face up to 10 years in prison.
