The incident occurred in Milicz County. – While checking the speed of vehicles travelling through the village of Średzina near Milicz, police officers stopped an Opel Astra driver for a roadside check. In a built-up area, he had exceeded the permitted speed by 35 km/h – reports junior warrant officer Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the press team of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław. Three Georgians were travelling in the car. The 62-year-old was behind the wheel and was fined 800 zlotys.

The foreigner – as if nothing had happened – immediately paid the fine, handing the officer four 200-zloty banknotes.

But that was not the end of the story. At the same time, the officers were informed by the duty officer that three men were being sought who, just minutes earlier, had stolen a handbag in one of the nearby villages. (The victim had briefly left it in an unlocked car.) The spokesperson said: – Her money and personal documents were in the handbag.

Since the description of the vehicle matched the one stopped for inspection, the officers prevented the Georgians from driving on and called additional officers to the scene. The result? The foreigners were taken into police custody, and the car they had been travelling in was towed to a guarded car park.

Junior warrant officer Aleksandra Pieprzycka:

In the course of further activities, police officers confirmed that the detained men had participated in the theft of the woman's handbag, and that the money with which they paid the fine probably came from that theft.

It also turned out that the same perpetrators had committed another theft in a similar manner that same day – this time at a petrol station. Taking advantage of the driver's momentary inattention while he was busy inflating the tyres, they stole his pouch containing money from the open vehicle.

The men will be brought before the court under an expedited procedure, and the court will decide their further fate.
