The incident occurred on Staszica Street in Bolesławiec. Police: – On Monday, around noon, an 89-year-old woman, leaving her apartment, met a stranger in the stairwell and let her inside. The woman claimed that she was compiling a list for the payment of the fourteenth pension and needed a banknote of a high denomination to record its numbers. The older woman was then offered a massage. During the treatment, the criminal left, supposedly to bring some equipment from her car.
Nothing came of the massage because the crafty manipulator never returned to the scene of the crime. The senior citizen herself realized that her wallet containing cash (PLN 6,000) had disappeared.
Police findings show that the same fraudster had earlier tried to enter another apartment in the same building but was not let in.
Bolesławiec officers:
We remind you of the principle of limited trust toward strangers who, for some reason, try to enter our homes. From time to time, the services record further cases of theft and scams involving impostors posing as grandchildren, police officers or employees of some institution.
The situations in which we may become victims of criminals can vary. As reports show, thieves go from door to door and try to enter victims' apartments under various pretexts, for example, asking for water, offering various items for sale at attractive prices or proposing treatments.
How not to fall victim to criminals?
- DO NOT LET STRANGERS INTO YOUR HOMES!
- NOT EVERYONE WHO RINGS OR KNOCKS ON OUR DOOR HAS HONEST INTENTIONS!
- DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO STRANGERS!
