We received a report from a reader concerning the GKS Iwiny pitch: – [To]a pitch that was available to Iwiny residents, but which is now completely closed. The children and grandchildren of Iwiny residents have nowhere to play. There is a small gym and a shelter on the pitch, which are currently inaccessible. At the same time, a football academy operates on the pitch, and the managers do not let anyone else in. The only form of recreation left is a small Orlik next to the primary school; however, the number of people interested exceeds the capacity of this small infrastructure.
He also added that “the condition of the stands after GKS Iwiny matches looks alarming (cigarette butts, bottles, glass, sunflower seeds, paper, rubbish, overflowing bins).” He also noted: – Unfortunately, the person responsible either does not see this or pretends not to see it.
GKS Iwiny management:
The sports facility at the Municipal Sports Club in Iwiny was closed for several very important reasons, namely:
- damage to the facility
- safety.
As the facility’s custodian and lessee, the club management lists the damage that occurred at the pitch:
- broken seats in the stand;
- lighting fires in the stand;
- removing paving blocks from the stand;
- cutting the goal nets;
- damage to the barbecue shelter;
- damage to the surveillance system at the barbecue shelter;
- broken fencing around the barbecue shelter;
- damaged substitute players’ boxes, broken and scorched;
- damaged pitch fencing, with fence sections being pulled out;
- damaged tables and benches at the barbecue shelter;
- residents walking their dogs onto the pitch and failing to clean up after them.
It adds:
(...) Iwiny residents may use the facility during sports training sessions 3–4 times a week.
We also note that the club management made the facility available to an ill resident of Iwiny who, for safety reasons, may walk freely.
As for safety at the facility, the management of the Municipal Sports Club in Iwiny is responsible; therefore, when the facility is open, the club does not want to bear direct responsibility for any accident occurring in the absence of supervisors. We would also like to remind readers that accidents have occurred at sports facilities in Poland.
It also emphasizes:
(...) a sports facility is not a playground. (...) Children who do not attend training sessions, and there are very few of them, have access to a playground located about 30 metres from the pitch. A school Orlik is also available, along with a playground located about 400 metres from the sports pitch.
It also adds:
The only proper solution is for residents to use the facility when its supervisors, i.e. the club management, are present.
GKS notes that it is enough to type “boisko iwiny” into YouTube to find a recording “showing residents damaging the sports facility.” The following video is meant. (WARNING! Profanity):
