At the start of the season, a kilogram of strawberries in Bolesławiec costs PLN 19–20. We saw this price, among other places, at the market on Wesoła Street and in the city centre. People ask sellers where they get such strawberries, since the fruit is only just beginning to form on allotments. There are various answers: that they are Polish strawberries grown in greenhouses, that they are early outdoor varieties from other parts of Poland... But is that really so?
Well-known environmental educator, journalist and author of several books, including the bestseller “I Cook, I Don’t Waste: Polish Zero-Waste Cuisine”, Sylwia Majcher, offers valuable advice on this matter:

In Bolesławiec County, strawberries are grown in several locations. The largest plantations are in Warta Bolesławiecka-Wartowice, Stare Jaroszowice and Parowa. Once the season gets going, there will be significantly more fruit, and it will certainly be cheaper than it is now.
A year ago, in mid-June, during the season, a kilogram of this fruit could be bought in Bolesławiec for as little as PLN 8.
Will it be similar this year, or more expensive? What do you think?
