In the “Onboard Magazine” published by Koleje Dolnośląskie, an article by blogger and traveler Bartek Dziwak appeared, in which he writes about Bolesławiec as the “capital of porcelain.”
As Anna Bober-Tubaj, head of our Museum of Ceramics, explains, the material produced in Bolesławiec is indeed the aforementioned ceramic—more precisely, stoneware. It is certainly not porcelain, however.
But, the director of the municipal institution emphasizes, this is quite a common mistake, and the difference between porcelain and stoneware may be difficult to grasp for someone who is not an AGH graduate. (Both stoneware and porcelain are types of ceramics, but they differ, among other things, in their raw-material composition and firing temperature.)
Bartłomiej Rodak, press spokesperson for Koleje Dolnośląskie, points out that Bolesławiec was, is and will remain the capital of ceramics. And no mistake—overlooked both by the text’s author and by the editor responsible for proofreading—will change that in the KD publication.
He also apologizes to all residents of the City of Ceramics who felt offended by this misrepresentation. He further announces that the first 50 residents of Bolesławiec to visit the KD stand during this year’s Ceramics Festival will receive special branded mugs from the carrier.
